As an Academy-Award nominated actor, and as part of the ensemble making up arguably the world’s most popular superhero franchise to date, Mark Ruffalo is in a unique position to support causes that will make our world a better place. Fortunately for us, he has chosen to stand for an issue both close to the heart of DiscountFilterStore.com and critical to our world as a whole: clean water.
As founder of Water Defense, Ruffalo is a champion for those demanding both access to clean drinking water, and for those demanding to know just what’s in the water that they are drinking. As part of his organization’s mission, he is among the first to support the latest technology and social platforms to drive engagement on this issue – and ultimately – find the best solution for this global problem.
Earlier this year, we spoke to Scott Smith, founder of OPFLEX water purification foam technology (seen in the third post image just below) and Chief Scientist for Water Defense. Smith was hand-selected for the role by Ruffalo and frequently joins him in presenting on behalf of clean drinking water. If you have yet to read this amazing interview, we highly recommend you spend a few minutes with it now.
Months later, we remain thankful to Smith for granting us an interview and sharing more about the mission of Water Defense, and of course, to Ruffalo for taking advantage of the opportunity his celebrity brings to launch this amazing organization. And while a single Tweet from Ruffalo will undoubtedly bring more exposure to his mission than our modest blog could ever hope to, we still want to take the opportunity we have to give his organization that little bit extra of exposure with our readers like you.
With that said, here are two initiatives from Water Defense that we wanted to bring to your attention:
The We Are There Campaign: As part of this campaign, Water Defense responded to water contamination disasters worldwide, gathering data to set new clean water testing standards that they will soon put into action in Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts House of Representatives have supported this mission, to the tune of a $50,000 amendment, which will help more quickly and effectively establish baseline clean water readings and water contamination monitoring strategies for the entire nation.
For those of you living in the Cape Cod area, Ruffalo and Smith will be hosting a live press conference sharing these results tomorrow at the UMass Boston Nantucket Field Station at 180 Polpis Road. This press conference begins at 10am and is open to the public. Read more about the event in this press release.
Win A Trip to The Avengers 2 Set: Talk about burying the lead! In perhaps the most exciting initiative ever launched in support of clean water, Ruffalo announced via social media yesterday that he will be giving away a trip to the London set of The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. A flight from anywhere in the world and hotel accommodations will be included.
So how do you enter? Simply make a donation of $10 or more to Water Defense, on Ruffalo’s Prizeo page. But hurry – this contest ends seven days from the June 27th publication of this post.
Our thanks go out to Mark Ruffalo, Scott Smith and all those working on behalf of clean drinking water throughout the world.
If you have ideas for how best to ensure everyone throughout the world has access to the clean water they need, we’d love to hear your thoughts and invite you to leave them via a comment below.
